11,000 spends Valentines at Kontrakultura

UP Diliman once again savored a different flavor of UP Fair as UP Students of Destiny took possession of the campus grounds in its third year of countering the culture, with this year’s theme “Kontrakultura 3:Born for Love.”

Another mark in UP’s history was made by SOD after an overwhelming crowd of more than 11,000 people gathered on Valentine’s Day celebrating music and love in a distinctively exemplary way.

The reactive huge audience was pumped up by the artists’ energizing performances, bringing the campus a concert like no other.

First time guest Never the Strangers described the night as “exhilarating”, expressing its awe with the viewer’s number and power. Freestyle for the second time joined SOD in countering the culture of UP Fair, recognizing the concert’s atmosphere of “clean fun.”

Supporting its view of Kontrakultura as a “positive concert”, Sabado Boys wittily established a positive musical ambience which gained the comical quartet positive feedbacks from the audience.

Moreover, the concert became a “liwanag sa dilim” party as all the lights were turned off, and the ever engaging Quest lead the crowd in raising up their own mobile lights as they were all dancing and jumping rhythmically with the beat of the sound, after which they released an all-out shout of victory.

The night’s most awaited star, Pop Rock Princess Yeng Constantino gave UP a one-of-a-kind concert experience with her invigorating song numbers, bringing up on stage random “chinitos” from the audience. She did as well give the people self-boosting message, saying that they have a “wonderful destiny.”

The night was said to be a big success, as one UP student said to those who were not able to come, “You missed a lot.”

“Kontrakultura- hindi lang siya title. Yun ang buhay natin. We counter culture. We live a different life. Let’s be light in this generation,” Quest said after his performance.

Kontrakultura has truly left a huge impact in the lives of many people that night. Pastor Carlo Panlilio, the founder of SOD said that all their works and sacrifices are really worth it.

So what’s the possibility of SOD entering the UP Fair concert scene again next year? This is what Pastor Carlo said, “I believe that indeed, we are growing from glory to glory…. So four, Kontrakultura 4. See you there!”
